Carlos Zambrano will make his 2nd start since coming off the DL with back soreness. Big Z will face Nelson Figueroa and the New York Mets in Sunday’s series finale at Wrigley Field.
In his 1st start of the DL, Big Z was awful. He looked out of sync, surrendering 8 ER on 7 hits and 3 walks in just 4 1/3 innings. He served up 1 home run, struck out 4 and also hit a solo home run of his own on the offensive end.
Let’s hope Big Z has a few better outings down the stretch here in 2009, so that he can build a little momentum going into the 2010 MLB schedule. As the Cubs have fallen completely out of playoff contention (64-62 record; 9 games back of Cards in NL Central race and 6.5 games back of Rockies in NL Wild Card race), it will be nice to see the Cubs save from face from a disappointing 2009 with some quality games down the stretch here.
