Baby News, Cubs Lose

Posted on 07 June 2010 by Lou

Sorry I’ve been MIA for a week, but my wife and I had our 2nd daughter last Monday, May 31st.  Katherine Julia came into the world as the Cubs were about to lose another game to the “lowly” Pirates in Pittsburgh.  That night they lost 2-1 and the next night they lost 3-2 to the Pirates.  The only thing that saved the 3-game road trip to Pittsburgh was the Wednesday rain out.

I don’t think I really missed much while I tried to remember how to change a diaper and how to function on 2+ hours sleep a night while also trying to take care of a confused, yet fiery 3 and a half year-old (Anna).  The only thing that kept us going was giving Anna a different gift every day to distract her from the fact that she was no longer the “baby girl” of the family.

The Cubs continued to lose to bad teams – and mind you, I say “bad” teams very loosely.  The Cubs dropped 2 games to the Pirates and then 2 out of 3 to the Astros in Houston over the weekend.  Both teams are technically “worse” than the Cubs, although the records hardly bear that “truth”.  At weekend’s end, the Cubs were 25-31 and they trailed the Reds and Cardinals by 7.5 games for 1st place in the NL Central.  The Pirates were 23-33, while the Astros were 22-35.  It is truly hard to believe that $100 million more dollars in payroll only buys you a few more wins.  Tom Ricketts — when are you going to fire Jim Hendry?!

Well it’s glad to be back on the Cubs beat.  I’ll have a more detailed post with a Cubs fun fact of the Day on Tuesday.  Come on, gimme a break – 1st day back is always the hardest…
