Former Cubs NL MVP Phil Cavarretta passed away at the age of 94 following complications from a stroke that he suffered about a week ago.  Cavarretta won the NL MVP Back in 1945 – the last time that the Cubs appeared in the World Series.  That season, he led the NL in batting with a .355 batting average and a .449 on-base percentage.  The Cubs lost to the Detroit Tigers in the World Series that season.

Cavarretta played 20 of his first 22 major league seasons for the North Siders.  His final 2 seasons in the bigs he played for the White Sox on the south side of Chicago.
